Hello Crittenden Families!

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope you all had a fabulous break, and got to enjoy “all things summer” with family and friends.  We kick off the first day of school (tomorrow) with a minimum day. As a reminder, minimum days end at 12:50.

I’m very excited to be starting my second year at Crittenden! Returning families already know that last year’s Assistant Principal, Danielle Lyons, is now the principal of Theuerkauf Elementary School. I wish her well and I’m glad that she is only “down the street”. However, I am also really excited to introduce Crittenden’s new Assistant Principal, Julie Thompson. Ms. Thompson was at Graham last year and she comes to us with lots of middle school experience - within the Bay Area, and as an educator in Ecuador. 

For those new to Crittenden, please know that there are many ways to find out what’s going on. We have a monthly Principal/PTA coffee which will be held in person on the First Friday of every month (8:20 - 9:20). We set it at this time so you can drop off your child, stay for a coffee and meet other parents. We meet outdoors in front of the auditorium; recently renamed the Leanne Weatherly-Rzepiela Performing Arts Center after a beloved Crittenden music teacher. We hope you can join us and learn all about the activities and fundraisers that the PTA has planned for Crittenden this year.

Additionally, there is a Principal’s newsletter (Panther Blog) that comes out on Thursdays. In this newsletter, I try to give a heads-up about important dates and events coming up, like Picture Day and Back To School Night.

We have gotten several requests to change a child’s math class. Please know that both middle schools in MVWSD have a great system in place to address this. We hope to challenge all students and it is important to us, to get students in the right class. There is also an appeal process if needed, and that will be outlined in this Thursday’s newsletter.
