An Update on the Academic Performance Index (API) from our district’s Educational Services Coordinator, Tara Vikjord (firstname.lastname@example.org):
At the March 2015 California State Board of Education (SBE) meeting, the SBE approved the recommendation by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI), with the input of the Public Schools Accountability Act Advisory Committee, to suspend the API for the 2014–15 school year. No, API will be calculated and posted during the 2015–16 school year.
What does this mean for MVWSD?
Last year we piloted the SBAC test with our students and received no results. This year students will take the new test and will get results back! Although no API will be calculated for Districts and schools, state testing provides us with data to analyze, reflect upon and inform changes that may be needed in our instructional programs. With this information, parents are able to see what their children know and are able to do and the District and schools are able to better understand trends that ultimately lead to substantive professional development for teachers and more targeted instruction for students.
