Principal’s Message
Over the last several months, a team of teachers from all grade levels in our district has been meeting to work on the question, “What Common Core math curriculum materials should we be using in our district?” Led by our Assistant Superintendent, Cathy Baur, the team researched the curricula that has been developed nationally and locally, examined these curricula based on their clarity, focus, rigor, ease-of-understanding, and other factors, and determined top top curricula to pilot for this year and nextl. These two curricula are EngageNY (which many teachers are already using) and Go Math.
While a well-rounded, thoughtful math course never relies on just one set of materials but rather draws from a multitude of high quality sources, it’s crucial to have a high quality central curriculum around which to based pacing, methodology, and other fundamental aspects of pedagogy.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact your child’s math teacher, our site math coach, Cathy Patterson (cpatterson@mvwsd.org) or reach out to me directly.
Walkathon
Come out to the annual Panther Prowl Walkathon on Friday, March 6 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. There will be games (including a pseudo-dunk tank), food, music, froyo, and fun! Thank you to the PTA committee who planned this year’s walkathon, which once again took in a record amount (over $15,000) in funds for field trips, classroom supplies, and other forms of teacher- and student-support. And of course, thank you to our entire community, without whose support we would not be nearly as awesome!
