Over the last several months, a team of teachers from all grade levels in our district has been meeting to work on the question, “What Common Core math curriculum materials should we be using in our district?” Led by our Assistant Superintendent, Cathy Baur, the team researched the curricula that has been developed nationally and locally, examined these curricula based on their clarity, focus, rigor, ease-of-understanding, and other factors, and determined top top curricula to pilot for this year and nextl. These two curricula are EngageNY (which many teachers are already using) and Go Math.
While a well-rounded, thoughtful math course never relies on just one set of materials but rather draws from a multitude of high quality sources, it’s crucial to have a high quality central curriculum around which to based pacing, methodology, and other fundamental aspects of pedagogy.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact your child’s math teacher, our site math coach, Cathy Patterson (email@example.com) or reach out to me directly.
Come out to the annual Panther Prowl Walkathon on Friday, March 6 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. There will be games (including a pseudo-dunk tank), food, music, froyo, and fun! Thank you to the PTA committee who planned this year’s walkathon, which once again took in a record amount (over $15,000) in funds for field trips, classroom supplies, and other forms of teacher- and student-support. And of course, thank you to our entire community, without whose support we would not be nearly as awesome!
Standardized Testing Dates
Crittenden’s testing window this year will be April 27 - May 15. The ELA and math tests are taken over three days: ELA the week of April 27 and math the week of May 4. The last week in the window will be for makeup testing and the 8th grade Science test.
Families, please do not schedule any vacations during this time. If you need to schedule medical appointments in that window, please make them for the afternoons. Thank you for your support!
New Text Messaging System
The Mountain View Whisman School District is adding text-messaging as an additional communication mechanism. Starting this Friday, you may receive a text message from the District asking you to opt-in. In order to continue to receive important messages from the District via text please reply with "Y", "Yes", or "Opt-in" when you receive this message.
This system will run in parallel to the Remind app that we use at Crittenden for the rest of the year. Next year, it will replace Remind.
To opt-out of all text messages from SchoolMessenger, visit http://www.schoolmessenger.com/txtmsg or reply STOP to the opt-in message that you receive. If you opt-in, but decide to opt out later, you may also reply "STOP" to any message or send STOP to 68453.
The District does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by you for sending or receiving text messages. Check with your wireless carrier for possible charges.

Building a Community for our Children through Social Capital - As parents and caregivers for our children with special needs, we strive to create a community around them where they can participate and feel included. We will hear from local organizations, who will discuss how they are building inclusive communities right here in the Bay Area using this model. The discussion will include what we can each do to help our kids build social capital and make this 'interdependent' community a reality. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 – 7 to 9 pm at Covington Elementary School Multi, 205 Covington, Los Altos 94024. For more information, see www.selpa1cac.org.
