Students, the legendary UCLA basketball coach, John Wooden, once said, "A true test of a person's character is what [s/he] does when [s/he] thinks nobody is watching." The truth of it is, when we are out in public, everyone notices what we do. We are representatives of our school, whether we like it or not. When we frequent (shop at) local businesses, the proprietors (owners) and the customers are noticing what we do. If we speak politely and act courteously, people remember. If we forget our manners, speak rudely, or cut in line, people remember. They remember, and they form personal opinions. Taken together, these opinions form our collective reputation. Let's all do our part to always be the best versions of ourselves: Positive People, Actively Engaged, Working Together, Striving for Excellence, no matter where we are.

Startup Weekend EDU
Last Spring, our school partnered with local community members and the non-profit organization, Startup Weekend, to bring an amazing experience to students from Crittenden and other area middle schools. Over the course of "Startup Weekend EDU: Mountain View", middle schoolers pitched ideas aimed at disrupting the ed-tech industry, organized themselves into teams, developed their ideas with the help of coaches in the tech, startup, and education spaces, and presented pitches with working prototypes to a panel of distinguished judges. It was an awe-inspiring event that developed and test students' 21st century thinking skills: creativity, collaboration, critical problem-solving, and communication. We need your help to bring Startup Weekend EDU back this year! Startup Weekend has its own curriculum and will lead the programming of the event, but parent organizers are needed for the logistical aspects of the weekend, including attendance, food, organization, and general supervision. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Mr. Chang by September 22.

Crittenden 2014-15 eScrip Drive is here
Have you ever heard of eScrip? If you haven't, the word basically means EASY MONEY for our school!
This is how it works:
• Your family members register any one or all of their existing grocery loyalty, debit and credit cards for use in the program. Like a Safeway club card!
•Participating merchants will make financial contributions to their chosen group, like Crittenden, based on purchases made by them, just by using the cards they have registered.
•The purchases are tracked and available online at www.eScrip.com, allowing your family to see just how much they are earning for Crittenden!
There's no selling any products and NO COST TO YOU OR YOUR FAMILY. It's free and easy. See your first period teacher for the eScrip form and take this home to your family today to start earning thousands of dollars for Crittenden Middle School. The money will be used to fund our dances, student activities, classroom supplies as well as music and art materials. You and your family CAN make a difference in our school. Encourage your family, friends and neighbors to visit eScrip.com and add Crittenden to their membership TODAY!
